music department update on pep band

by Kyra Dyles

Elwood music teacher, Nicole Nickell, has been at Elwood Public Schools for 29 years, and Nickell has done so much for our school. Nickell has taught pep band for a while now and took a few minutes to reflect on it.

Nickell shared that the main purpose of pep band "is to create a spirited atmosphere that will get the crowd and players pumped up for the game. Pep band creates a happy atmosphere, which in return, can uplift spirits and the desire to try to win.”

Nickell says it's important to be responsible.

“Every player has a part that he or she is responsible for playing. Each part is valuable, as is each player,” said Nickell. “When everyone practices and becomes better at their parts the overall sound of the band becomes better. If a part is missing, it can really throw off what the band sounds like,” said Nickell.

Nickell says that in pep band, you have to be a team.

“Like any team, you perform the way you practice,” said Nickell. “If you are dedicated to the team, you will definitely work harder and as a result of the hard work you put in together, you will all benefit and sound well as a pep band.”

Keep up the great work, Elwood pep band!
