The Gosper County Spelling Bee was on February 7, 2023. To decide who competes in the county contest, students in grades 5 through 8 take a fifty-question spelling quiz. Based on the scores of that quiz, the top four students from each class compete in the county contest. When asked about where they get these words from Dennis Seberger responded with, “The Scripps National Spelling Bee sends us in a list and we pretty much just read them in order.
The top three places of the Gosper County Spelling Bee were: Adrianna Seberger, third place; Claire Pohl, second place; and Ben Morton, first place. Morton is the only fifth grader to earn first place in the history of the Gosper County Spelling Bee. He won by correctly spelling the word “recoup”. The last five winners of the spelling bee were Lauren Hickey, Steven Duran, Brody Diefenbaugh, Kara Brockman, and Adrianna Seberger.
